PERSONALITY |
+ polite/respectful - Though it certainly comes off as a little cold, Shuichi is a rather polite individual. He's the sort of person who, at least outwardly, is tossing off some "thank you", "good day", and "you're welcome" back and forth. Just so long as a person isn't psychic or if they don't irritate him too much that's basically all they'll see. Respect is something he believes very deeply in, probably as a result of his semi-Japanese upbringing. It means that he treats people above him with the respect he thinks they deserve, but it can also mean he'll be quickly offended by someone if they don't give him some respect as well.
+ resilient- He's the sort of person that doesn't quit when the whole world has managed to knock him down and spit in his face. He might grumble and complain about how much it stinks, but he does continue to move forward. Even if it's not with the greatest cheer in the world, the motion is still there, coupled with a fierce determination to succeed and prove everyone's doubts, including his own, wrong.
+ not afraid of challenges - Shuu just isn't the sort that is affected much by how difficult something may be. He's a "the road may be rough, but if you don't walk down it you go nowhere" sort of fellow. In fact, one might say that he actually enjoys challenges, except, you know, he complains about it every step of the way. Still, half of what Shuichi says and thinks even are irrelevant.
+ helpful - Shuichi, if asked, is the sort of person who is willing to lend whatever helping hand he can to his friends and family. In fact, he's kind of not afraid to put himself out when it comes to that sort of ordeal.
+ devoted - Though he's not the sort of friend to chummily hook arms with you and skip down the hall, he is a devoted person. He doesn't often back out on his word, and tries to be there for the people that care about him. If that means continuing on through a hell-hole of a world, then so be it right?
+ open-minded - To Shuichi's credit, he is the sort of person that is very open to new ideas. He tends to take everyone's perspective into account when it comes to any conversations and such. He might completely despise a person's point of view, but he'll still respect the fact that they deserve to have their own opinions about such things. He's a flexible person, open to change and new things if it is at all necessary.
+ quick-learner - Luckily for Shuu, He adapts to different things quickly. He's the sort of person that can learn a language fairly easily, at least if it's by sound.
- low self-esteem - Dear god does this guy hate himself. Though it's veiled by a lot of his dark humor, Shuichi has an incredibly low self-esteem. He just tries to make it seem like he doesn't. Still, the fact of the matter is that he thinks he's a rather useless person thanks to his disability, and tends to beat himself up for decisions he's made a lot of the time.
- bitter - To be blind is tough enough, but to have had your sight... and to have a love for something that involves sight before it was lost is a hard ordeal. Shuichi's incredibly bitter about becoming blind, and can be quite a thorn in someone's side when it comes to that particular topic of conversation.
- complains a lot - Though it's usually to himself, there isn't much that Shuichi won't complain about. Dumbledore himself could come back to life and show up for tea and he'd grumble about how he was put out and had to find a teacup or something like that. It's one of Shuu's favorite tunes to whistle, the ol' "everything freaking sucks right now" melody.
- doubts himself - He's a second guesser if you ever saw one. Though he will force himself to stick through with the decisions he's made, he'll question himself every step of the way. He tends to worry and fret over the most ridiculous things when it comes to decisions.
- pride/illusion of pride - Denial isn't just a river my friends. Shuichi is the sort of person who, despite his rather epically low self-esteem, clings to his pride like a stubborn leech. Or at least, the illusion of pride. He's the sort of person who cannot stand to ask for another person's help. He hates having to rely on someone else, and has a tough time sucking it up and just dealing with the fact that sometimes you need to rely on others.
- rash when angry - You know the idiot that does really really stupid things when they're mad? That's Shuu. He gets angry, and he loses his sense of reason and does the most idiotic things you can possibly think of. And, unfortunately, he has a rather short temper.
- sarcastic/mocking- Though most of the time he's outwardly polite, he's almost always mocking everyone in his head. And every now and again, of course, he lets his polite calm slip and out comes the true him. He's not afraid to mock most anyone, at least in his head, hopefully he doesn't run into anybody who's telepathic or something like that because he'd end up getting his butt kicked for half of the things that he thinks.
- perverted - Or well, he's got his mind in the gutter most of the time. Shuichi's the sort of person who finds great enjoyment in the distasteful and enjoys a good dirty joke at the best of times. At the worst, he's full-on lusting after someone. Hey, you don't have to see to think someone's attractive right?

Shuichi is the youngest of two brother's. His elder brother, Haruna, has already graduated from Hogwarts and is pursuing a career studying muggles. His family is Japanese-Euro, his mother being of Japanese descent. Because of his mother's father, his father was forced to take on a Japanese last name, as opposed to her taking on his.
His father skipped out on the family after piling up a ton of debt by gambling, and getting caught magically trying to cheat on said gambling such. He hasn't heard from, or about him, since he was about eight years old.
Unfortunately his family, who was once at least financially comfortable, found themselves with really no cash. Together his mother and Grandfather decided that it would be Shuichi's job to convince his father's sister (who has an inheritance) that Shuichi was a girl.
Because the broad happens to hate boys, for whatever reason. Luckily, Shuu has a fairly feminine appearance. Unfortunately, it means that whenever he visits her, or she visits him, he ends up having to wear girls clothing. (which sucks) His grandfather and mother are pushing him to befriend her though, in hopes that she'll pass her inheritance to him.
As a prank one of Shuichi's older cousins cornered him and put a curse on him, causing him to lose his sight. It was supposed to be temporary, but they soon found that for whatever reason they couldn't remove the curse. The cousin, of course, was expelled from school, but the damage was done.
Shuichi was blinded, completely and totally. He uses the traditional muggle way of "seeing" when one is blind, which is a cane, and can read at least basic braille.
He's not exactly open to having his eyes ripped out and replaced with magical ones just yet, that's sort of a "last resort" sort of thing. And of course, his mother doesn't want him to ruin his pretty features.
