AUDITIONS
WANT AN ABILITY? PROCEDURE | Don't think by just stating your character has a special ability, your character will just receive it. To get one of these abilities, you must audition for it. We want to make sure someone who will actually make good use of the ability they want. The post can be any length you want, just try your best! All auditions for an ability are to go in this thread, not posted in a separate one. This keeps the board clean, and allows us to keep tabs on auditions more easily. Fill out the form below, removing the * when posting it. NAME: character name ABILITY: what are you auditioning for? AUDITION: Audition goes here. How did your character get their ability? What was/is it like for them? How do they use it? What do they think about it? Basically write whatever you want about your ability in a paragraph or two. This is the part we will be judging.

NAME: Magnus von Blitzkrieg ABILITY: Half Veela AUDITION: Magnus was born of German Veela descent, making him a half veela, of course. Thanks to his beauty and radiation of magical sex pheromones, he is extremely vain and prideful. And by extreme, I do mean extreme; he will spend hours upon hours doing nothing but preening himself to perfection, which he requires of himself at all times. He’s especially protective and conceited of his hair; whoever touches it will be instantly executed. Major Narcissus complex? I think so.
He also uses his seductive aura and beauty to full advantage. He will gladly lure anybody of any gender and species into bed just because he can, but will likely end up breaking their heart because he always thinks of himself as too good for anybody. He quite likes being a half veela because of all the perks, and his ability to attract only fuels his complex.
Unlike full veelas, his diluted blood only allows for some birdlike traits. Thankfully, he inherited the wings and is able to extend them to a full wingspan. Unfortunately, the rest isn’t so great. He doesn’t gain a magnificent beak or bird head and though his nails become sharper, they’re still brittle compared to what they can be. His bones do hollow out and he loses some of his more impressive human muscle mass, so in his transformed state, he is less useful for fighting and more useful for just show. His human form can hold a fight much better.
Magnus is generally a calm sort of guy, having carefully trained himself to control his anger. However, his anger is none the less volatile and the strangest things can set him off. He may just laugh it off when you spill water all over his homework or tear his favourite shirt, but beware if you look him in the eyes too long or if you say good morning to him with the wrong smile and tone.

NAME: imogen thorne ABILITY: half-merperson AUDITION: Imogen Thorne was born, bred and raised in jolly old England. Her mother however, hailed from Greece, and a merperson (a siren to be exact) – her father, all English and a pureblooded wizard. Imogen as a result is a half merperson. Being half-merperson is both a blessing and a curse in the eyes of many. As a child, her strange hair colour and webbed fingers and toes got her stared at and made fun of, but as an adult, it has ceased to bother her. In fact, she sees it as more of a blessing. She is gifted with above par swimming ability (including the fact that she cannot drown) and a naturally gorgeous timbre (when she isn’t angry and shrieking). She embraces her strangely coloured hair, oftentimes adding in highlights that enhance the deep blue colour. Her webbed fingers and toes do not bother her, but for the sake of not having to explain them, or freaking out small children (i.e. her immature first year students), Immie dons gloves and tries to ignore that burning desire she always has to walk about barefooted, or wear open-toed shoes. Imogen, liking the sound of her own voice (a bit too much) had started to train vocally at the age of 12. Her developed splendidly and will not shy at a chance to showcase her ability. She also took speech classes, and paid careful attention to pitch and tone. As a result, her speaking voice is all honey – low, sweet modulated tones that some have said sounds like sex. Imogen makes no bones about using her voice to charm people, be it her co-workers, random bedtime partners, and even her students (so they can pay attention in class, participate and the like. What were you thinking?). Swimming is something that she just enjoys; the thrill of beating non merpersons in races has long since worn off… Now she just enjoys delving into the depths, exploring… Perhaps come across a merperson or two…
The drawbacks of being half merperson however, are no more than an annoyance to her. The webbed toes and fingers, as well as her hair colour she considers as something that makes her unique. Having to dunk her head every 24 hours (sometimes in very filthy places) so that she can stay alive is just irritating. Being very careful not to become angry and cause other people’s eardrums to rupture by accident is another one. As much as she loves her voice, having it transformed to a shrill thing worthy of damage inducing volume is quite painful… and it could harm the precious chords she spent years to train. Oh, and the abuse of multiple bottles of lotion so that the small patches of pretty shimmery scales on her legs don’t flake! All in all, she takes it in stride.

Post by BLAINE CHANNING on Oct 5, 2011 9:59:54 GMT -5
NAME: Blaine Channing ABILITY: Werewolf AUDITION: Twenty-seven years ago, age 4, Blaine Channing’s parents were feeling the full force of their sons tantrum-throwing age and limit-pushing to the absolute end of their wits. They would say no and he would do it anyway, presenting to giggle all along when his parents scolded him or tried to lecture the troublemaking kid. In addition he had a penchant for sneaking out using what magic was present in him to open the window, unknowing of it being magic or how he did it of course, and crawl out to play with his dog Lucas. This, naturally, did not bode well for anyone.
July the 13th, the full moon night, was one of these nights. Blaine had always been an energetic boy whose sheer amount of energy was too much for his parents to keep up with, so when bedtime finally rolled about he would never be tired enough to actually sleep. That was why, against his parents warning not to sneak out, especially not tonight, he slipped out of his bed and climbed up his toy-chest and out the window making beeline towards Lucas’ doghouse only to find his golden retriever unwilling to as much as acknowledge his presence. The dog knew what went on when the full moon rose, if not only by animal instinct that it was dangerous, but Blaine did not. After calling his dog a ‘cowath’ (coward) Blaine left to find better entertainment in the forest nearby his parents’ home.
He was far enough into the forest not to be able to spot even the roof of his house by the time the moon rose and an eerie choir of pained howling sung through the trees. It was a large forest but if there was more than one werewolf or only an echo was something no one ever found out. Blaine was like boys most and his curiosity won out for whatever survival instinct he had screaming for him to hide and cry for his mommy, that however did not last long; a hunched shadow appeared, lit up by a strange white light he would later recognise as that of the spell Lumos, and then the shadow collapsed to the form of a large dog. For a minute the creature just stood there whining, then it sniffed around and took to leaping towards where little Blaine had frozen in fear.
What happened next went as a blur for the 4 year old boy and all he could tell was that it felt like forever between when the wolf leaped at him before it’s teeth sunk into his shoulder, right arm and chest, enough time for him to pee in his pyjama pants, and then there was only pain before he fainted. It took four days before the poor boy woke up in his bed, bandaged up to the extreme and with a pain beyond imagination coursing through his body when he just breathed. There wolf, werewolf actually, had penetrated his right lung and broken some of his ribs along with bad flesh wounds, but for some reason he was still alive, in the later years he would almost wish he had died that night.
Life is not kind to werewolves, they are discriminated against and hated by most of the wizarding world, so Blaine was forced to keep his affliction hidden not be made a victim of bullying and stern, disapproving glances. For the most times he hated it, hated his goddamn lack of luck for getting himself into that position in the first place, but over the years he has come to accept it’s who he is now and that no amount of hate would change it. It almost seems like the wolf has become kinder to him after he started to accept it, though nowhere near domestic or tame he found that he no longer craved to slice himself up during the transformation, the sheer pain of his bones breaking down and reshaping however is still unbearable.
During full moon he transforms into a lanky wolf, larger than average but seemingly malnourished or just strangely thin, with black fur and grey eyes. During these nights, even though he meticulously brews and takes his wolfsbane potion, he still feels as though if a student crossed his path he might not be able to restrain the urge to bite and eat them, thus he locks himself up anywhere available and safe in the hopes that he won’t break loose or go berserk on someone.

Post by ROBIN LOVEGOOD on Oct 8, 2011 16:57:01 GMT -5
NAME: robin lovegood. ABILITY: occlumens. AUDITION: He had always been a paranoid and fearful child, that Robin Lovegood. Hated his secrets getting out, hated people knowing things that he'd rather they not know, perhaps to the degree where it was almost unhealthy. Thus, secrecy had always been a concern of his -- and what better way to keep your secrets than to learn the practice of Occlumency? It was a natural choice that as soon as Robin learned that there was a way to keep his thoughts safe from others, he was quick to seek out a way to learn it.
He found his ticket to learning it through meeting an old (ancient, really, in Robin's personal opinion) witch at the Three Broomsticks during his third year at Hogwarts when he was eighteen. She was a hunched over and tiny little lady, hobbling around on a cane. Poor thing had forgotten her little pouch of Knuts and Sickles (maybe Galleons, that cane had looked expensive) at home, and Robin, being the advocate of kindness and all that he was (and still) is, decided to be kind and pay for her flagon of butterbeer out of his own pocket. Why not, he was going to have one himself anyways. Somehow, that led to him talking to that little old witch.
Perhaps it was because she was lonely, Robin would later realize, but the old witch said somewhere towards the end of the conversation that he reminded her a lot of her grandson. Her dead grandson, who died because he couldn't keep a secret. An offhanded comment she made about Occlumency caused Robin to glance up, perhaps a little too quickly, because the old witch cracked open an eye to leer at him and said in that creaky voice of hers, "... So I reckon you want to be an Occlumens, eh...?"
So it turned out that the old witch was a talented Occlumens herself, and though Robin never did quite learn why she was willing to teach him Occlumency, though he suspects it is because she saw in him the grandson she lost. She taught him well, but it wasn't a terribly easy thing. Far from it, in fact; Robin had always been a naturally sensitive person, so blocking out emotion, a necessary part of being a successful Occlumens, was a concept that Robin had difficulty getting a grasp of. It would take a great tragedy to steer him in that direction. The death of both is parents in a fire of less-than-natural origins led Robin to take on a new mindset about life.
He shed his sensitivity, instead deciding that any means was justified by the end if it meant that he could protect what he had left and avenge what he had lost, and in doing so, managed to master the skill of Occlumency to the point where he can, in fact, selectively suppress emotions and memories associated with certain events, and with a considerable amount of effort influence Leglimens to see fake memories. Unfortunately, by learning how to clear his mind like that effectively, the price Robin paid was hat it has made people come to perceive Robin as cold and not uncaring. Though it hurts him to have people ostracize him because they believe that they cannot trust him due to his being an Occlumens (you can never be sure when one is lying to you or not), he bottles it up, believing it to be a sacrifice he is making for the greater good. Always for the greater good.
Being one of the older children in his family, he took it upon himself to use his ability as an Occlumens to create for himself a second persona, the woman Wren Hailfax, whose identity he uses to gather information in hopes of tracing down the one who murdered his parents in a bout of flames. You never know when one of your targets may be a Leglimens, you know? Needless to say, he needs it to be so that if they peer into his memories, they will see the fabricated memories that are of Wren's life.

Post by SION JENKINS on Oct 10, 2011 0:30:43 GMT -5
NAME: sion jenkins ABILITY: legilimens. AUDITION: Information. Knowledge. Data. Facts. This is the sustenance Sion lives on. While he may neglect his body, he never forgets to feed his mind - it is always hungry and constantly consuming. Examining. Processing. Cataloging. His mind sucks the marrow out of the skeletal structure of the world around him, and this is how Sion sees.
If potions is his passion, the truth is Sion's obsession. Ever since he was young, his curious mind raced on like an engine, gears turning, machines calculating. His brother was the same. Both had great skills in observation, but they manifested themselves differently. Sion was ambitious, wanting to learn as much as he could about things. His brother Owen was much more passive, and was much more naturally observant than his younger brother. He had a hard drive of information stored away and when he wanted to make some sort of connection, he shifted through that database and analysed the data. But he never had the motivation to gather new information for his collection. Sion did.
Perhaps part of the reason that Sion decided to learn legilimency was because he resented Owen's natural ability to see things so clearly. He wouldn't ever admit it, however, and it probably isn't the true reason. He never did see the point of petty emotions such as jealousy. No, it was probably Sion's desire to understand people that he first sought out lessons in the mind-invasive art. He never was a people-person, and still makes the mistake of thinking that understanding the psychological aspects behind the decisions people make means he understands their actual emotions. He knows how he functions and he's learnt to master his body, both physically and emotionally. Unfortunately, his desire for such control usually leads him to label his own emotions as irrelevant and shoving them away. What a wealth of unexamined information he's missing out on.
So. Sion wanted to cover up his awkwardness and apathy by delving into the intriguing twists and turns of others' minds. He wanted to gain some social adaptability. And how could he do that? It was shortly after his parent's divorce (which, frankly, he and his brother weren't overly shocked about - they'd seen it coming) that the young wizard found some information about legilimency buried under his stacks of papers. With the help of his brother, who was currently in his fifth year at Hogwarts, he was set up with an instructor on the subject. Being twelve at the time, Sion was young enough to have time to really develop the talent. Although it was a bit overwhelming at first, he quickly got a grasp on the ability. And his hard work paid off.
Sion has now become quite a skilled legilimens, although he prefers not to rely on it. Instead he uses it to fall back on if he can't figure something out by simply observing. He likes the challenge of examining and working out puzzling situations, and using his powers sometimes feels like cheating. But when he is completely lost and confused - and doesn't like to admit it, but it happens - Sion finds the ability to examine other's minds a useful tool indeed.

Post by Héctor Alvarez on Oct 11, 2011 16:09:52 GMT -5
NAME: Héctor Alvarez ABILITY: Animagi AUDITION:Hector was one of the select few that were born an Animagi. He was registered at a young age to the Spanish Ministry of magic, and when he came to Hogwarts, the English Ministry was informed and he was registered. Because he’s been an Animagi all his life, he doesn’t know anything else, but he does think he’s lucky. How boring must life be if you can’t transform into an animal! Neither of his parents were Animagi, but apparently, his great great great great grandfather was, so it sort of makes sense. Oh if you were wondering what animal Hector transforms into, well he has the privilege of turning into a snow white cat...well actually he transforms into a snow white Kitten. While he is now eighteen, when he transforms, he’s still the same form he was when he was four. A small innocent kitten with completely white fur, par a small black spot above his left hind leg. He eyes are a cold sharp blue, much like his own in his human form. This was all in all, quite easy for his parents to accept, as he was in a pureblood family. In fact when he was younger, he was taken to meet other Spanish Animagi that living in Barcelona and nearby cities and towns, who where helpful in telling him all about how this would affect his life
All in all, his kitten form is the conventional cute kitten, and Hector knows it. Unfortunately Hector abuses this gift immensely. He usually used it to get himself on the laps of various Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw girls, and having them fawn over him and his cuteness. It’s safe to say that it works ninety percent of the time. He has come across some girls who aren’t interested in kittens and have just put him outside like the big meanies they are. Of course it’s not all about the girls (shock horror!), he’s used it to learn secrets, passwords into the Hufflepuff dorm, and the Quidditch strategies of opposing houses. Some one ever expects a Kitten to be their downfall! Now in his fourth year, most of the teachers are aware of his ability (they have all been notified, whether or not they decided to remember is up to them), however the majority of the student body isn’t. It isn’t a strong kept secret, but he would avoid telling people if he can avoid it. As soon as someone see’s his kitten form for the first time, he becomes extremely recognisable, so it loses all the secret espionage perks. He’s asked the teachers not to openly blurt it out, and they haven’t up till now which is a good sign.
Now in his fourth year, he feels really comfortable in the school, and is more than happy to stroll the corridors or the courtyard in his Kitten form. Just as long as no one see’s him transform he’s fine. There have been several people who have mentioned the abandoned Kitten, referring to Hector, and how it strangely hasn’t age.

Post by XENIA BORISOVNA GODUNOVA on Oct 21, 2011 20:16:05 GMT -5
NAME: Xenia Godunova ABILITY: Occulmens AUDITION: During the late 16th century, wizards had made laws to prevent the wizarding word and the muggle world from influencing each other. The most meticulously enforced law forbade anyone of magical ability from marrying any muggle in a position of authority. Unfortunately for Xenia, her grandmother had done just that. She married Malyuta Skuratov, one of the most violent leaders of the Oprichnina. She was a clever woman, though, and became an Occulmens before she even touched the man. She became quite skilled at creating false memories, and managed to fool every Legilimens who periodically tested her. She taught her daughters, both of whom were witches, this art from a very young age, even though the Russian Wizards' Council had cleared her of any serious suspicion. One of her daughters, Maria Grigorievna, married a man who would one day become Tsar and the father of Xenia. She, like her mother before her, taught Xenia occulmency when she was only a child, even though her husband would not become Tsar until Xenia was sixteen. Xenia's mother was the only other witch in Xenia's life, so she was forced to keep many secrets from the Wizard's Council, her family, and even her future husband prior to his... unfortunate... death.
She has been using this ability of hers for years to prevent people from discovering her true, unnatural age and her connection to the Time of Troubles. Without it, she would have never have been able to masquerade as a transfer student at Hogwarts, nor convince those fools in Russia that the Ministry of Magic was keeping dangerous secrets from them. Being able to alter her own memories has given Xenia the ability to appear normal and harmless, when in reality she is anything but.
Currently, she has a lifetime of false memories shielding the core of her mind. A loving mother and father, a kitten named ботинки, childhood friends and extended family, all shielding the fact that she has none of these things. All concealing the truth of who, and what, she is.
NAME: Xenia Godunova ABILITY: Metamorphmagi AUDITION: Xenia was born a metamorphmagus, much to her mother's dismay. As an infant, her mother had to give her sleeping potions and conceal her head in a blanket just to prevent her husband from seeing their daughter change her hair or eye color. A muggle would have considered it to be some sort of witchcraft or devil's work. Maria knew that Xenia's birth could condemn herShe would often force-feed Xenia strong hair-coloring potions or make her wear wigs. As a toddler, when she was just old enough to begin controlling how her physical traits changed, her mother would punish her -- verbally, physically -- every time the hue of her hair so much as flickered. She was forbidden from showing it or mentioning it to anyone, her mother included. Maria treated Xenia's ability like an unspeakable deformity, causing her daughter, too, to treat it as such.
It took Xenia a long time to change her opinion about her power. Only after her family was murdered and she had escaped from the monastery did she find someone who forced Xenia to change her form. He was a магл -- a muggle -- who owned a tavern and allowed Xenia to work and live there. He knew nothing of her lineage, nor her past, nor her success in creating a Philosopher's Stone, nor even her ability as a metamorphmagus. He was blissfully ignorant of the existence of wizards, and Xenia meant to keep it that way.
Even though they were a similar age when they first met, Xenia had made herself appear at least ten years younger. She was in hiding, after all, so she herself and her secrets with her secrets. As a metamorphmagus, she could alter her perceived age and, as such, aged as any normal human would until the man died and Xenia was forced to find somewhere else to stay.
And so she left, changed her appearance, began her life anew. As a child, she had never been able to use her genetic ability, and was thus only now discovering its potential for swaying people's opinions of her. Xenia didn't just change her surroundings and her appearance, but also her actions and overall demeanor. She would have been an excellent actor (and actually was for about ten years during the late 17th century in France). She appeared to be many different people over her many years: different races, different genders (not completely, of course), different ages. And as she changed and traveled, she learned of all sorts of magic, languages, and technologies. Her most recent guise is that of a female transfer student at Hogwarts. A 4th year Ravenclaw. No one knows exactly why she decided to infiltrate Hogwarts, but considering she brought along one of the most powerful beings within the Time of Troubles, people assume it must be important.
