PERSONALITY |
+ Curious; Joan is a highly curious girl and isn't above asking questions or spending hours in the library when she wants to know something.
+ Independent; Joan tends to be a bit of a loner, and thus has become very self-reliant. She's probably the last person to ask for help, and will often refuse it if it is offered. You know the situation must be dire if she is actually asking for help.
+ Intelligent; Having always had a hunger for knowledge, Joan has become rather smart. She does well in her classes, and usually doesn't have a hard time. If she begins slacking or sliding in her classes, its time to worry.
+ Calm; Shockingly, for a half veela, Joan has good control on her temper. She simply keeps a level head and walks away...Now, what happens AFTER she's walked away is a mystery to the world, but some have noticed scorch marks on the tapestry...
+ Elegant; In both manner and movement, Joan has a grace about her that only adds to her charm. Her movements are naturally fluid and sweeping, and her mannerisms have been trained to be polite and gentle.
+ Passionate; While far from a lover, Joan is very passionate about her moral and what she believes in. She will make her voice heard where it matters, and it's hard to pry her away from something once she's set on it.
+ Courageous; Whether it be courage or fearlessness, Joan isn't one to back down! If she's got nerves, she's either sick, facing her boggart, or it's a REALLY bad situation.
- Secretive; This is a curse to her. For reasons beyond her understanding, she just can't seem to bring to light anything done wrong to her. Joan guesses it's because she doesn't like worrying her parents, she detests pity, and she doesn't like being helped that she doesn't like cluing people in to what bothers her.
- Fiery; Literally. While she can keep her temper in most of the time, there are the odd moments when her temper gets loose. If that happens, watch out! She's proficient with fire spells due to her veela blood.
- Stubborn; Joan hates to back down, and often doesn't know when she needs to quit, whether it be a duel or studying. Not only that, she hates accepting help from others, even when it may make her life easier.
- Cold; Because she's tired of being hurt, and hurting others, Joan may come off as cold. She doesn't like getting attached to people anymore, because she doesn't like seeing them get hurt.
- Resentful; She can seem very much like she's got a chip on her shoulder. She envies normal witches and wizards for being normal, and she's heavily resentful toward her veela blood. She can never tell whether or not someone's just talking to her because of her accidental charm, or because the really want to.
- Tsundere; Has she been acting particularly angry or upset toward you or while you're around. Yep, Joan probably has a crush on you. Though her crushes, thankfully, don't last long. She just has times were she longs for something more in her life, which ends up forming into a crush on someone. It passes quickly, so you may actually escape without a burn and with your eardrums intact!
- Pog obsession; A dark little secret of Joan's. When she was younger, a muggle-born friend of hers introduced her to a very old muggle toy and game called Pogs. She still has all 873 pogs she managed to collect, including the few she crafted into jewelry. No one knows about this, though she does still wear a pog necklace before taking important tests as a good luck charm.

HISTORY;
Joan was born on a chilly winters eve seventeen years ago to a veela mother and a wizard father. The nurses and doctors had a hard time keeping the mother tamed enough during the labor, and when a squalling and very angry half-veela baby girl was born...Well, they all wished they'd taken another shift.
Though she has unconventional parents and strange blood, Joan has had a fairly stable upbringing. She grew up where her best friends were muggle-borns and purebloods alike. Joan grew up with no concept of blood status because of this. Half-bloods, purebloods, muggles (who knew of the magical world), muggle borns, half breeds, and even a squib even lived in her neighborhood. She learned of the funny muggle technologies and games, like microwaves and pogs (hence her obsession with them). But she also learned of wizarding things, such as not preforming magic in muggle crowds and controlling her temper.
She never really ran into a problem until she started school. Prep-school was something she always looked forward to, and especially Hogwarts after that. So when a very upset Joan wrote home after her first day, her parents had to wonder what was written. "Someone called me a half-breed whore today. Called me dirty and filthy. Momma, Papa, why did they say that?" her letter had read. Her parents were outraged at such a thing. How dare they! They contacted the school, but as Joan had yet to complain to the teachers and to name any names, there was little to be done. This was Joan's first experience in blood hatred. And it changed her for life.
As the years went on, Joan was in her final year of prep-school. Fourteen years old and ready for change. She'd grown into a beautiful young lady, but few could come near her. She'd long since perfected the cold stare that sent most scurrying away from her. During the course of her final year, she turned fifteen, and out came a whole new part of her. She was what some would call a 'late bloomer'. Yeah, guys had been finding themselves more and more attracted to her, and she'd been finding it harder and harder to control her temper. But once 'zero day' happened, the world fully knew what Joan was. A girl that had long since liked to pick on her finally sparked Joan's temper in a way the young witch could never control.
The bully-chick had started a rumor that Joan was sleeping with one of the teachers. And once this was fully around the school, it was only then that Joan and her teacher found out. Of course it wasn't true, but now the teacher (a well liked young man) and she both faced having their lives ruined forever. And Joan couldn't take it anymore. She stormed about the school, hunting the bully-girl, feathers falling from her with every step. Her eyes burned and her skin itched terribly, her hands and feet aching horribly. Still, anger drove her on, and on she went. The more enraged she got, the more it affected her appearance. And when she finally found the bully, who'd been hiding in the girl's bathroom, that was when it all exploded.
Joan literally exploded into her partial veela form, her eyes looking like that of an eagle's. Feathers grew in patches all over, on her shoulders, elbows, cheeks, and the backs of her hands. Her leggings shredded and her skirt rode up as her legs made a sickening CRUNCH as they fully turned into large, strong bird's legs, her feet transformed into talons and ruining her shoes; the most dramatic of her changes. The bully screamed for help as Joan chased her, screeching out fire spells at the top of her lungs. It took a full three hours to separate the two, and another two hours to calm Joan down again. She was lucky not to be expelled that day...
Since, Joan has seldom transformed. She's not like that since coming into her own, guys now drool even more over her. She graduated with good scores from prep-school and then enrolled into Hogwarts for further education. But life still hasn't been kind to her. She was a first year, just recently having turned sixteen. It had always seemed to be like that, celebrating her birthday soon after school started. Oh well, that was the least of her concerns. What was foremost in her mind was the fact she was going to school with legal adults, dining with people in the early twenties. And all the men couldn't stop staring at her! But rather than be flattered by this, she was insulted. "Shake your head; I think your eyes are stuck." was something common for her to say.
Well, one spring evening, Joan decided she needed some fresh air. She had been invited to a little private party, but was treated more like a decoration than a guest. So while she was enjoying the quiet of the night, someone slipped out of the party to secretly join her. Before she knew what had hit her, a third year young man had hit her with a silencing charm. By the time she noticed she was no longer making sound, it was too late for her to make noise in another manner. The devilish male dragged her kicking and silently screaming to a dark closet. He smelled horribly of fire whiskey; someone must have snuck the alcoholic drink in. He was quick to disrobe her, to pull her hair and whisper dirty things to her. Touching her in all manner of naughty ways, saying he'd make her his forever, take her for his own.
Luckily, Joan had sharp teeth. Just as he was close enough and about to 'seal the deal', she bit him as hard as she could on the neck/shoulder. He let out a mighty roar and stumbled backwards, tumbling out of the closet, much to the glee of his fellows. Joan ran away before too many had gathered, silently sobbing and struggling to pull her clothes to more decent levels. Joan kept silent for a long time, even after the charm had worn off. Her grades never slipped, so her teachers never really thought anything was wrong. The quiet girl got quieter was all they noticed. The male who almost raped her was never brought to justice, and the two avoid each other like the plague since.
Joan's life has been fairly quiet since then. Now a fairly fresh second year, she's talking again, and life seems normal. The occasional nightmare disturbs her, but she's otherwise back to her usual self.
